TOP IDF GENERAL DENOUNCES
ISRAELI TACTICS
The Washington Post is reporting on comments made by Lt. Gen. Moshe Yaalon, the Israeli military chief of staff:

Israel's top-ranking soldier said that current hard-line policies against the Palestinians were working against Israel's "strategic interest" and had contributed to the downfall of the previous Palestinian prime minister...

"It increases hatred for Israel and strengthens the terror organizations,"

"There is no hope, no expectations for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, nor in Bethlehem and Jericho..." "...In our tactical decisions, we are operating contrary to our strategic interest."

EU POLL: ISRAEL BIGGEST
THREAT TO "WORLD PEACE"
The EU Observer is reporting:

Over half of Europeans think that Israel now presents the biggest threat to world peace according to a controversial poll requested by the European Commission.

According to El Pais, a massive 59 percent of Europeans said they believed that Israel is the biggest obstacle to world peace.

The poll, conducted by Taylor Nelson Sofres/ EOS Gallup Europe, was conducted between 8 and 16 of October.

There is no such thing as "world peace," nor has there been since the Garden. On the other hand, in Europe, Israel threatens this non-existent thing.

"LAST MESSAGE" TO THE JEWS
AU About News is reporting Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad "last message" to the Jews as he steps down from his post:

"They must never think they are the chosen people who cannot be criticised at all.

"They suffered a great deal in the past. They were killed, they were massacred and finally there was the Holocaust. We sympathise with them.

"We are very sad to see how the Jews were ill-treated by the Europeans. They must remember when they were ill-treated by Europeans they had to run to Muslim countries to seek refuge.

"The Muslims never ill-treated the Jews, but now they are behaving exactly how the Europeans behaved towards them against the Muslims."

Being that Jews who were murdered or expelled out of nearly every Arab country there is during the 20th century makes one wonder what "harsh treatment" might look like versus all that kindness Mahathir is talking about..

IT'S ON TV; IT MUST BE TRUE
Reuters is reporting on a "History of Zionism" TV-program being aired in the Middle East:

AHizbollah's al-Manar television, in a move that has drawn Washington's ire and accusations of anti-Semitism, has started airing a series on the history of Zionism it says shows a Jewish plan to dominate the world.

In a Syrian-produced series broadcast on Manar's satellite channel across the Middle East during the high-viewing Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the station promises to reveal what it says is the true face of Zionism.

"The series shows us how Jews don't refrain from... committing the worst crimes against all those, Jews or non-Jews, who stand in the way of the Jewish dream and their project," a summary of the series, entitled "The Diaspora", said.

MIddle East Media Research has a more detailed description of the program, which begins with a dying Amschel Rothschilde (apparently in a cave lit by a menorah, while "the Hatikva" plays in the background):

Enter Rothschild's five sons. The dying patriarch says to them: "The non-Jewish nations – they are all of the filthy seed of the ass. Rule over them secretly and publicly, by force and by repression, by deceit and by trickery. Do not let any nation share power over this world with you… God has honored us Jews with the mission of ruling the world through money, knowledge, politics, murder, sex...

The program continues downhill from there, with such things as Theadore Herzl planning for the new state of Israel in a brothel, Dreyfus being sent to undermine the French military, etc., i.e., some of the same old anti-Semitic fairy tales that enjoyed shaping Europe in the 19th & 20th centuries.

"GUARD PIGS" IN ISRAEL
The BBC has a unusual story of an idea for "security swine" to work in Israel:

An organisation in Israel has gained rabbinical approval to train pigs to guard Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Until now, Jewish settlements have been guarded by men with guns and also by guard dogs.

But a new idea - guard pigs - has been thought up by an organisation called The Hebrew Battalion.

The man in charge, Kuti Ben-Yaakov, insists it is a serious proposal.

"Pigs' sense of smell is far more developed than that of dogs," he said.

"The pigs will also be able to identify weapons from huge distances, and walk in the direction of the terrorist, thereby pointing him out.

"Moreover, this animal is considered to be dangerous by Islam and, according to the Muslim faith, a terrorist who touches a pig is not eligible for the 70 virgins in heaven."

OFFICIAL ISRAELI PROTESTS ABOUT "GENEVA PLAN"
The Israeli government is officially protesting the Swiss governments involvement in the "Geneva Plan" being put forward by two private citizens (An Arab and A Jew) which calls for a twin-state (Israel and Palestine) and a single shared capitol (Jerusalem):

Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey flew to London and New York to promote the plan in discussions with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Foreign Ministry director-general Yoav Biran... in his meeting with Altermatt, quoted Shalom as saying there is only one government that deals with these issues, "and that everything else is only virtual [reality]."

ANNIVERSARY OF "EGYPTIAN VICTORY OVER ISRAEL"
Article at the Arab News celebrates the fictitious triumph of the Egyptian army over Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur war:

"...In the war of October 1973, Egypt crushed the Israeli army of occupation."

Usually when an army is captured en masse (such as what happened with the Egyptian troops that could not outrun the Israeli tanks chasing them through Sinai) it is called a victory for the side doing the chasing and capturing. Not so at the Arab News.

Israel was totally devastated even though the Egyptian forces didn’t advance into Palestine.

To say the least.

"Radical Islam Gains a Seductive New Voice"

"...play into Islamist conspiracy theories, which blame the United States and Jews for the Muslim world's oppressive rulers, stagnant economies and sense of powerlessness.

The acceptance of such conspiratorial views may strike Americans as despicable or even laughable, but they reflect the influence of Islamic radicals on the worldviews of millions of Muslims.

Fouad Ajami, a professor of Middle Eastern studies at Johns Hopkins University, said part of political Islam's antimodern approach was a rejection of the Western scientific method. So when some Islamists declared, for instance, that al Qaeda caused this summer's blackout on the East Coast, that could be accepted without any proof. "

Nazi links have surfaced with a contractor working on the German Holocaust Memorial:

"Work on Germany's national Holocaust memorial has been halted after a company supplying materials for it was linked to the cyanide the Nazis used to gas millions of Jews.

Degussa, which won a lucrative contract to coat the vast Berlin memorial with an anti-graffiti solution, was once part-owner of the producers of Zyklon B gas used in concentration camps.

"This is not an easy decision to make.." " ...while the memorial committee would have no problem working with a company that produced buttons for SS uniforms, working with a company connected to Zyklon B oversteps the mark.""

SYRIA THREATENS RESPONSE
Farouk Sharaa, Syria's foreign minister, warns that Syria would attack Israelis in the Golan if Israel repeated it's air attacks on terrorist camps in their territory.

"We have many cards that we have not played. Don't forget there are many Israeli settlements in the Golan. I am not exaggerating but I am describing things as they might happen."

ONE-HALF OF 1%
Barna Research conducted a poll of Americans on religious beliefs, among other questions.

...nearly 1 in 5 adults (18%) now contends that people are reincarnated after death.

And one-third of Americans (34%) believe that it is possible to communicate with others after their death. As evidence that this belief is gaining traction, consider that nearly half of all Busters [Busters (ages 20-38)] (48%) embrace the concept of communication with the dead, while just 35% of Boomers (39-57) and 15% of Elders (ages 58+) do so.

Most Americans do not expect to experience Hell first-hand: just one-half of 1% expect to go to Hell upon their death. Nearly two-thirds of Americans (64%) believe they will go to Heaven. One in 20 adults (5%) claim they will come back as another life form, while the same proportion (5%) contend they will simply cease to exist.

MSNBC is reporting that the man who helped the Pentagon set up its military chaplain program has been indicted for money-laundering on behalf of Al-Qaida:

...in an audiotape of a conversation obtained by NBC News, Alamoudi seems to embrace violence and suggests al-Qaida should choose better targets: (Translated) “I prefer to hit a Zionist target in America or Europe or elsewhere.”

USS LIBERTY BACK IN THE NEWS
The AP is carrying a story on the Israeli attack on the USS LIberty in 1967.

A former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American servicemen says former President Lyndon Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident.

"BATH HOUSE OF JESUS"
An unintentionally funny story on the discovery of ancient Roman bathes in Nazareth.

A shopkeeper running a small souvenir business in Nazareth has made a sensational discovery that could dramatically rewrite the history of Christianity. "I am sure that what we have here is a bathhouse from the time of Jesus," he says, "and the consequences of that for archaeology, and for our knowledge of the life of Jesus, are enormous."

The most powerful player in the Christian world, the Vatican, has so far refused to throw its weight behind the dig, possibly fearing that Shama's find threatens its own dominance where tourism in the city is concerned. "What we are looking at now is probably Roman but even if it proves to be from a later period, then the bath underneath certainly is Roman," says Freund. "Either way, we know that under the shop lies a huge new piece of evidence in understanding the life and times of Jesus."The giant bath could only have been built for a Roman city or to service a significant garrison town. That would mean Joseph and Mary, and their son Jesus, would have been living in the very heart of the occupying power. This is likely to have huge significance for New Testament scholars in their understanding of Jesus's later teachings.

The inescapable conclusion is that at the time of Yeshua, someone used to take a bath.

JEWS IN GERMANY
The UK Telegraph reports on the swelling population of Jews in Germany, which seems to have surprised a lot of people.

Paul Spiegel, leader of the Central Council of Jews, forecast that the there would be around 130,000 Jews in Germany by 2005, and welcomed the increase as a sign that Germany was "on the way to normality".

The report further mentions how many of these immigrants are from Russia where anti-Jewish feeling has gotten stronger and stronger. Story here.

BUT THEY DON'T CONTROL HIM!
To make sure the hub-bub from Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's comments about 'Jews rule to world' doesn't go away, various news agencies are still picking up the story. In response to the notoriety, Mohamad has said:

``In my speech I condemned all violence, even the suicide bombings, and I told the Muslims it's about time we stopped all these things and paused to think and do something that is much more productive. That was the whole tone of my speech, but they picked up one sentence where I said that the Jews control the world,'' he told Bangkok Post in an exclusive interview yesterday, which covered aspects of his 22 years as leader of Malaysia, as well as his straight-forward views on terrorism, democracy and US policy.Dr Mahathir added, however, that ``the reaction of the world shows that they [Jews] do control the world''.

The Southern Baptist BP News reports that the 54-year old Evangelical Theological Society is in crisis over how to deal with "Open Theism:"

Open theists claim that God does not know the future decisions of humans because those choices have yet to be made. In other words, they say, there is nothing to know.

Which proves there's a fine line between nothing to know and knowing nothing.

The AP, Haaretz and Straits Times each carry stories on the governing bodies of the EU trying to respond to Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's "The Jews rule the world " comments from last weeks Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Backed by Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Mr Chirac objected to Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir's comment on Thursday that 'Jews rule the world by proxy'.

Foreign ministers Thursday night had drafted a text that said: "His unacceptable comments hinder all our efforts to further interethnic and religious harmony, and have no place in a decent world. Such false and anti-Semitic remarks are as offensive to Muslims as they are to others." Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini told reporters Thursday night Mahathir's remarks were "gravely offensive." But when the paper was handed to EU leaders Friday morning, Chirac said there was no place in an EU declaration for a text of this kind, diplomats said. Other leaders agreed, although the Netherlands wanted the wording to stay in the declaration.

USA Today is reporting on Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's "Jews rule the world" speech from the Organization of the Islamic Conference held in Malaysia. "His speech was an eye-opener to a lot of us... " says Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The prime minister, who has turned his country into the world's 17th-ranked trading nation during his 22 years in power, said Jews "invented socialism, communism, human rights and democracy" to avoid persecution and gain control of the most powerful countries.

At the ongoing Organization of the Islamic Conference in Malaysia, the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said:

JEWS rule the world, getting others to fight and die for them, but will not be able to defeat the world's 1.3 billion Muslims, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has told a major Islamic summit.

"The Europeans killed six million Jews out of 12 million. But today the Jews rule this world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them," Mahathir said, adding, "1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews."

"With these they have now gained control of the most powerful countries and they, this tiny community, have become a world power.

"We cannot fight them through brawn alone, we must use our brains also," he said.

"Of late because of their power and their apparent success they have become arrogant. And arrogant people like angry people will make mistakes, will forget to think.

"They are already beginning to make mistakes. And they will make more mistakes. There may be windows of opportunity for us now and in the future. We must seize these opportunities."

However, he did call on Muslims to match their studies of religion with attention to science and mathematics because "we need guns and rockets, bombs and warplanes, tanks and warships for our defence".

2003 Nobel Peace Prize-winner Shirin Ebadi (she is Iranian) said:

...the Israel-Palestinaian conflict is "an unequal war of stones against weapons."

ISRAEL INVADES SYRIA... IN MALAYSIA
At the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Malaysia, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said:

"Israel has been urging America to invade Syria, and Americans seemed to be reluctant, so in order to force the hand of America, Israel invades Syria," Mahathir said. The prime minister said there wasn't much the Islamic nations could do. "Well, we can go to war," he said sarcastically "but we have no capacity to go to war. That's the problem. Because we allow ourselves to become weak, people bully us."

I think he is referring to the Israeli air strikes on a terrorist camp in Syria. How this will cause the U.S. to invade Syria in response seems rather vague.HEY! WHERE DID ISRAEL GO?

ARAFAT POISONED?
Various media outlets are speculating stomach cancer to explain Arafat's deteriorating looks from over the past several months. On the other hand, the usual speculations from the death-to-Israel crowd:

The Hamas-affiliated Palestine Information Center Web site quoted an anonymous Palestinian security official as saying he did not rule out the possibility that Arafat has been poisoned by Israel.

"We have information which we are trying to verify according to which President Arafat may have been injected with a lethal dose that slowly and gradually leads to a natural death within a month," the official said.

Baker was in the news in 2002 when he was fired by Rev. Robert Schuller of Crystal Cathedral Ministries, following an exposé in the Orange County Weekly, for his ties to neo-Nazism and his anti-Semitic writings. (Schuller’s California-based Crystal Cathedral is perhaps best known for its nationally syndicated television program “The Hour of Power.”)

Reuters has an article saying that Syria, following last weeks Israeli attack on a terrorist camp in their territory, would respond if there were further incursions by the IDF. Israeli officials responded by saying Syria has no right to talk about self-defense while harboring terrorist training camps. Haaretz reports that the Bush White House has seen a report that Israel has retrofitted cruise missiles with nuclear warheads enabling submarine based launches (there is some dispute about whether this is even technically possible). Story here.

Pew Center for People and the Press did a 16,000 people survey in 20 countries and the Palestinian Authority in May, 2003. By wide margins, it showed that people from Muslim nations do not believe that it is possible for Palestinians rights to be respected while Israel exists. Also notice that Arafat & Osama Bin ladin score very highly in confidence as world leaders who know what to do as "the right thing" (according to the language of the survey). As a result of this accelerating migration, the Jewish population in Germany has swollen from 33,000 in 1990, the year of that nation's reunification, to 200,000 today, according to Schoeps. The PLO in Israel are demanding the release of Abu Abbas, captured in Baghdad yesterday. "The Palestinian-Israeli interim agreement signed on September 28, 1995 stated that members of the Palestine Liberation Organization must not be detained or tried for matters they committed before the Oslo peace accord of September 13, 1993," Palestinian cabinet minister Saeb Erekat said. Wanted Palestinian fugitive, Abu Abbas, was captured in Baghdad. He led the Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF), which hijacked a cruise ship, the Achille Lauro, in 1985, killing passenger Leon Klinghoffer when they found out he was a Jewish-American. More at BBC and Jerusalem Post.

The American politician Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) is being reported in the major news outlets for remarks about Israel and the "Pro-Israel" lobby here.
