UK JOURNALISTS UNION DENOUNCE ISRAEL AND CALL FOR BOYCOTT
In what is an ongoing anti-Israel stance of longstanding, the British National Union of Journalists voted to condemn Israel for various things. Perhaps the vote helps to announce to the world the official bias against Israel reflected in so many UK News stories.
"Britain’s National Union of Journalists has voted at its annual meeting for a boycott of Israeli goods as part of a protest against the Second Lebanon War, the British daily Guardian reported on its Web site Friday evening.
The vote was carried 66 to 54 - a result that met with mixed responses from the NJU delegates present.
The motion came during a series of motions on international affairs and read: “This ADM [annual delegate meeting] calls for a boycott of Israeli goods similar to those boycotts in the struggles against apartheid South Africa led by trade unions and the TUC [Trades Union Congress] to demand sanctions be imposed on Israel by the British government and the United Nations.”
The motion was originally brought by the union’s South Yorkshire branch in February and was opposed by the Cumberland branch, which said it was too political and was not closely enough related to journalistic matters. After a show of hands twice failed to give a clear result, union scrutineers were called in and the doors to the conference room closed. The vote on the motion was taken after it was split from a larger motion that condemned the “savage, pre-planned attack on Lebanon by Israel” last year.
This motion, known as Composite B in Order Paper 4, was carried by a large majority and also condemned the “slaughter of civilians by Israeli troops in Gaza and the IDF’s continued attacks inside Lebanon” following what the motion defined Israel’s “defeat” by Hizbullah.”

The UK Guardian has a bit of insight into the workings of the union written by reporter Stephen Brooks:
"So, the dear old NUJ might not quite know what to do about digital integration, but it has made up its mind that it hates Israel. A warped set of priorities, you might say.
Today the NUJ delegates voted 66 to 54 to boycott Israeli goods as a protest against the war in Lebanon last year.
The vote was taken three times and eventually tallied by scrutineers. It met with gasps and a smattering of applause, in contrast the boisterous hand clapping that rang out for most other initiatives.
It was as if NUJ delegates realised immediately what they had done.
Those with long enough memories will remember the infamous letter of sympathy that the union sent to Libyan Colonel Gaddafi after Americans bombed him. That was sprung on the annual delegate meeting during a poorly attended session on Sunday morning in 1986 after the traditional Saturday night disco.
Once again the NUJ has made a fool of itself with the worst kind of display of right-on, sanctimonious posturing. I'm sure that the Knesset will be quaking in its boots.
It's not what I joined the NUJ for. I didn't vote against the motion as I am not a delegate at these proceedings, but a working journalist. But I am comforted by two thoughts. Firstly, that the vast majority of NUJ members (some 39,000) would not support the motion, as opposed to the 66 that did. Secondly, that the motion will have zero effect, apart from some isolated sentiments of "we showed 'em" around the bar of the Birmingham Holiday Inn tonight.
Why can't NUJ delegates get passionate about something that is really important to journalists, such as new media? The NUJ says it has 327 journalists working in new media who are members. Compare and contrast this this with the 9,000 members of its newspaper division."
MONTREAL JEWISH CENTER FIREBOMBED
The Canada Gazette has a story ont he firebombing of Snowden jewish community center by two men in Montreal:
"Two Montreal men have been accused of a raft of attacks against the city’s Jewish community, including the firebombing of a Snowdon community centre that police are treating as a hate-related crime.
Omar Bulphred, 21, and Azim Ibragimov, 23, appeared briefly in Quebec Court on Friday to be arraigned on charges stemming from incidents that began last fall. Both were denied bail.

The case is due back in court on Monday, at which time a date could be set for a bail hearing.
In addition to their alleged roles in a rash of firebombings, the two are accused of conspiring to commit kidnapping and armed robbery. But it’s not known who or what their potential victims were.
The pair were arrested Thursday morning and questioned. The investigation did not turn up links to any terrorist or hate groups, said Constable Christian Emond, of the Montreal police fraud and arson squad.
“What we can say is that the crimes are hate-related, however,” he said.
“The evidence we’ve accumulated will be brought out in a trial and it will be up to a judge to use this to impose a stiffer sentence” if there is a conviction.
“We deem it to be hate-related because the proof we have indicates the motivation was there.”
VATICAN CHANGES POSITION ON YAD VASHEM MEMORIAL
The Jerusalem Post has a report on the politics between the Vatican and Israel over the Yad Vashem memorial mentioning Poe Pius XII:
"In a dramatic about-face, the Vatican Ambassador to the Holy Land has agreed to attend the official Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Yad Vashem, officials said Sunday.
The planned boycott, which had threatened to upset already delicate relations between Israel and the Vatican, stemmed from a photo caption at the Holocaust Museum referring to the silence of Pope Pius XII during the murder of six million Jews in the Holocaust.
...The caption, which first appeared when the new Holocaust Museum was inaugurated at Yad Vashem in 2005, states that the Pope's reaction to the murder of the Jews during the Holocaust is controversial, and reads, "even when reports about the murder of Jews reached the Vatican, the pope did not protest."
The Vatican Ambassador, who took up his position in Jerusalem last year, said that his move was an effort to "attract attention" on the issue, which he said was offensive to Catholics, and was a question of "human rights."
[Originally] He told The Jerusalem Post Thursday that he would "not feel comfortable" attending the ceremony at Yad Vashem.
The role of the Holocaust-era Pope, who reined from 1939 until his death in 1958, has long been controversial, and the Vatican has struggled to defend him over his silence during the mass murder of six million Jews."
ANOTHER HOLOCAUST COMING? POLL SAYS "POSSIBLE"
The Ynet news web site has a Holocaust Memorial report on an Ant-Defamation League poll survey:
"On the eve of 2007's Holocaust Memorial Day, a poll showed that 37 percent of Israel's youth feel another Holocaust is possible.
The poll on anti-Semitism was conducted among Israeli youth by the Anti-Defamation League.
While about a third of the respondents said they felt another Holocaust was a possibility, six percent said there was a significant chance that this may occur.
Sixty-two percent of the youth said there was no way another Holocaust would take place and one percent said they were not sure."

HOLOCAUST HISTORY BEING DROPPED IN UK SCHOOLS
The UK Daily Mail has a story that some public schools in the UK are dropping teaching about the holocaust out of fear of offending Muslim students who are taught that it is a myth:
"Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.
There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.
The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into 'emotive and controversial' history teaching in primary and secondary schools.
It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.
The researchers gave the example of a secondary school in an unnamed northern city, which dropped the Holocaust as a subject for GCSE coursework.
The report said teachers feared confronting 'anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim pupils'.
It added: "In another department, the Holocaust was taught despite anti-Semitic sentiment among some pupils.
"But the same department deliberately avoided teaching the Crusades at Key Stage 3 (11- to 14-year-olds) because their balanced treatment of the topic would have challenged what was taught in some local mosques."

USA HALTS ARM SHIPMENTS TO ISRAEL
The Middle East Newsline is claiming friction between the Israeli and USA government has resulted in an arms shipment freeze between the two countries:
"The Bush administration has blocked arms and technology transfers to Israel.
Israeli and U.S. sources said the State Department has blocked the transfer of weapons and technology to the Jewish state over the last three months. The sources said the halt reflected deteriorating relations between the two countries since the end of the war in Lebanon in August 2006.
"Nobody will say openly that there is a problem," a government source said. "But there is a serious problem that reflects the marginalization of Israel in U.S. strategy."
The unofficial suspension of U.S. arms deliveries began in late September, the sources said. They said the suspension halted the airlift of air-to-ground and other munitions conducted during and immediately after the Israeli war with Hizbullah."

"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday said that Israel no longer had any reason to exist and would soon disappear.
"This regime, thanks to God, has lost the reason for its existence," he said.
"You imposed a group of terrorists ... on the region," he said, addressing the US and its allies. "It is in your own interest to distance yourself from these criminals... This is an ultimatum. Don't complain tomorrow."

NEW MINARET GOING UP ON TEMPLE MOUNT
JerusalemPost.com on the anouncement of a new, taller minaret for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem:
"Israel has not objected to Jordanian plans to construct a fifth minaret on the Temple Mount, and the Hashemite Kingdom is pressing ahead with plans to do so early next year, a senior Jordanian official said Wednesday.
The minaret, which will be constructed on the eastern wall of the Temple Mount near the Golden Gate, will at 42 meters be the highest of the minarets on the Mount and the first to be built in more than 600 years, Dr. Raief Najim, vice chairman of the committee running the project, told The Jerusalem Post in a telephone interview from Amman."
Not everyone is thrilled:
"Najim, who met with Abdullah on Monday to finalize the plans, said that the minaret will be constructed in Hashemite style to differentiate it from the previous four minarets, which were built in the Mameluke style, and will include seven sides representing the star on the Jordanian flag.
According to a decades-old regulation in place at the Temple Mount, Israel maintains overall security control, while the Wakf, or Islamic trust, is charged with day-to-day administration.
A leading Israeli archeologist lambasted the plan. "I am against any change in the status quo on the Temple Mount," said Bar-Ilan University's Dr. Gabi Barkai, a member of the Committee Against the Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount. "If the status quo is being changed, then it should not just be the addition of Muslim structures at the site."

AHMADINEJAD TOURS THE UNITED STATES
Bush: "I take Ahmadinejab's threats seriously"
haaretz.com has a rundown of the adventures of Iranian president Ahmadinejab in the United States:
"In his... interview to CNN, the Iranian leader declined to repeat his frequent denials of the Holocaust, saying that, "Since I've talked a lot about this subject, I don't want to repeat myself."
Ahmadinejad has repeatedly expressed doubt over whether the Holocaust took place, and initiated a Tehran cartoon exhibition on the Holocaust in response to the Danish cartoons of Mohammed.
But he did say that the Holocaust was a "pretext for occupying Palestinian land" when the Palestinians had nothing to do with the genocide of Europe's Jews.
"If this event happened, where did it happen?" he asked. "The 'where' is the main question, and it was not in Palestine."
He also criticized what he called American politicians' sensitivity and bias toward Israel, saying that when Israel bombed Lebanon during its recent war with Hezbollah, "it doesn't seem to have created concern among American politicians. But when somebody questions or criticizes the Zionist regime, there is so much reaction."
Ahmadinejad also declined in the interview to repeat his belief that Israel has no right to exist, saying instead that he views it as "an occupying regime."
The Iranian leader said all the residents of Israel and the territories - Jews, Muslims and Christians - should be able to decide "what its fate should be."
"...United States President George W. Bush says that he takes Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at his word when he declares that Israel should be wiped off the map.
"My judgment is you've got to take everybody's word seriously in this world," Bush said in an interview to CNN.
"You can't just hope for the best," he said. "You've got to assume that the leader, when he says that he would like to destroy Israel, means what he says. If you say, 'Well, gosh, maybe he doesn't mean it,' and you turn out to be wrong, you have not done your duty as a world leader."

The leader of the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement Salah, told a crowd of 50,000 gatherers that Israel's occupation of the Temple Mount was nearing its end.
He then said comatose former-prime minister Ariel Sharon and President Moshe Katsav, who is currently under investigation for alleged sex crimes, were "paying the price" for damaging Jerusalem's al-Aqsa Mosque."

CREEPING ENCROACHMENT ON WESTERN WALL
The website for the biblicalarcheologicalsociety.com has an article about the back-and-forth battles over the contested land making up the Western Wall ("Wailing Wall") and the Temple Mount in general at Jerusalem:
"The latest Muslim encroachment to the Temple Mount is at the “straight joint” and the Ophel road at the southeastern corner of the Temple Mount. The “straight joint” is a masonry seam marking the end of the pre-Herodian Temple Mount and the beginning of Herod’s extension of the wall southward; the masonry in the extension abuts the masonry to the north and is not interlocked with it. This was first excavated by Charles Warren in the 19th century, and then by Kathleen Kenyon, who stopped because of the outbreak of the 1967 war. Two Muslim cemeteries, one located north of the straight joint. The area south of the straight joint has been declared an archaeological park. It has no longstanding history as a cemetery, but new Muslim graves have now been filling this area."

10TH CENTURY BC ALEF-BET STONE FOUND
An AP report at Foxnews.com about an archeological dig finding 10th Century evidence of alef-bet carvings :
"Two lines of an alphabet have been found inscribed in a stone in Israel, offering what some scholars say is the most solid evidence yet that the ancient Israelites were literate as early as the 10th century B.C.
"This is very rare. This stone will be written about for many years to come," archaeologist Ron E. Tappy, a professor at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary who made the discovery, said Wednesday. "This makes it very historically probable there were people in the 10th century (B.C.) who could write."
DEAD SEA SCROLLS TOURING USA
Foxnews.com original report on a USA tour of the "longest" of the Dead Sea Scrolls:
"A traveling exhibition featuring the Temple Scroll, which measures 28 feet, will make its first stop at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in suburban Beachwood, The Plain Dealer newspaper reported Saturday. The ancient manuscript dates back to the time of Christ.
The exhibition, which runs from March through August, also includes other artifacts from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, including the burial box of Caiaphas the High Priest who, according to the New Testament, delivered Christ to the Romans for execution."
The Scrolls are currently at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
"The Dead Sea Scrolls—objects of great mystery, intrigue and significance—are widely acknowledged to be among the greatest archaeological treasures ever discovered. The scrolls link us to the ancient Middle East and to the formative years of Rabbinic Judaism and Christianity."

HOLOCAUST RECORDS DESTROYED IN BELGIUM
The Brussels Journal reports that the Belgian government has destroyed the records of the persecution and deportation of Jewish communities in Belgium in the 1930s and 40s :
"The Belgian authorities have destroyed archives and records relating to the persecution and deportation of Jews in Belgium in the 1930s and 1940s. Some of this happened as recently as the late 1990s. This was revealed during hearings in the Belgian Senate last Spring. Though the Senate report dates from 4 May the Belgian press has not yet mentioned the affair. The Senate report says that “documents about the period 1930-1950 have been destroyed on a massive scale.”
...While the records about the persecution of the Antwerp Jewry have been kept intact, documents about the fate of the Jews in Brussels and in French-speaking cities with large pre-war Jewish communities, such as Charleroi and Liège, were purposely destroyed. In Charleroi all the archives relating to the 1930s and the war years have vanished.
In Charleroi the archives of both the municipal police as well as the judicial police were completely destroyed in the late 1970s. Before the war Charleroi had a relatively large Jewish community which was all but exterminated during the war, while in Antwerp a significant proportion of the Jews managed to survive. Yet in Belgium no-one is familiar with the extermination of the Walloon Jewry, while Antwerp is regularly blamed for having been a “center of anti-Semitism.” By destroying paper trails people are made to forget that certain events ever took place.
...Hugo Vandenberghe, the leader of the Flemish Christian-Democrats, suggested that the destruction of the archives “may have had a political motive.” Senator Vandenberghe referred to the anti-Semitism of the Belgian authorities in the 1930s. The historian Nico Wouters told the Senators during the hearings that even after the war the Belgian authorities continued to arrest German Jews who had survived the holocaust by going into hiding, under the pretext that they were “citizens of a hostile nation.”
Records relating to the so-called “phantom trains” have also disappeared. The “phantom trains” were convoys of “unpatriotic” Belgians, such as Flemish-Nationalists and Communists, and non-Belgian citizens, most of them Jewish fugitives from Germany and Poland. They were arrested by the Belgian authorities at the beginning of the war and deported to France."

"The first deportations from Belgium took place on 4 August 1942. Henceforth, over a period of two years, a total of 26 trains set off to the 'unknown destination' from the internment camp at Dossin, near Malines. The destination was in fact Auschwitz."
"...The local Belgium population was active in helping Jews, of whom more than 25,000 were hidden in private homes and orphanages, and thereby saved. But of the 25,631 Belgium Jews who were depported, only 1,244 survived the war."

"ENDEMIC ANTI-SEMITISM" ON RISE IN BRITAIN
The UK London Times reports on the British Government taking up the issue of escalating anti-semitism in the UK:
"On Thursday an all-party parliamentary inquiry will state that anti-Semitic violence has become endemic in Britain, both on the streets and university campuses. The report will call for urgent action from the Government, the police and educational establishments.
Mark Gardner, of the Community Security Trust, said: “In July, when the conflict in Lebanon began, we received reports of 92 incidents, which was the third-worst month since records began in 1984.” In 2000 the monthly average was between 10 and 30 incidents.
The former minister Denis MacShane, who chaired the parliamentary inquiry, said: “These figures confirm the evidence given to us that anti-Semitic attacks are a very real problem.”
The Board of Deputies of British Jews submitted evidence to the inquiry that anti-Semitism in Britain was at its worst level.
The July incidents “were more dispersed than usual”, Mr Gardner said. “It is usually a small number responsible for a large number of attacks, but these were very widespread across the country and included graffiti attacks on synagogues in Edinburgh and Glasgow.”
The attackers, when visible, are from across society, he said. “When it’s verbal abuse, it’s just ordinary people in the street, from middle-class women to working-class men. All colours and backgrounds. We hardly ever see incidents involving the classic neo-Nazi skinhead. Muslims are over-represented.”
In hate-mail to senior Jewish figures, ordinary Jewish people were being blamed for the deaths of Lebanese civilians. “There are also references to the Holocaust, saying that Hitler should have wiped out the Jews.”

"WAVE OF INTMIDATION" AGAINST EUROPEAN JEWRY
The ejpress.com has an article on the rapid increase of anti-semitic acts (particularly in the UK) among the countries of Europe following the Israeli conflict in Lebanon:
"Figures released by CST last week showed in increase in anti-Semitic incidents compared with last year. Communal figures have expressed certainty that the rise in anti-Semitism is connected to the current conflict between Israel and Lebanese group Hezbollah.
In July CST logged 60 anti-Semitic incidents compared to 31 for the same month last year.
Last week, The Jewish Chronicle, the UK’s national Jewish weekly newspaper, reported that the London home of a Jewish doctor had been smeared with swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti. A Synagogue in Scotland was also targeted. The pavement outside the main gates of Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow was daubed with the word ‘Hizbollah’.
Gerald Levin, Garnethill Synagogue president, said, “I am sure this is linked to what is going on in the Middle East. We have never had problems like this before.”
Communal organisations have also reported an increase in hate material and abusive phone calls and emails."

"CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS"
Washington Times writer Arnaud de Borchgrave covers the subject of desperate choices before the United States and Israel concerning an "embryonic Iranian nuclear arsenal":

"USES OF ANTI-SEMITISM"
Sao Paulo writer Nelson Ascher has an essay (at pajamamedia.com) on the uses of anti-semitism by jihadist groups, which he argues mimics Nazi methods of 60 years ago:
"The Nazis managed to convince millions and millions of Frenchmen and Poles, Belgians, Norwegians etc. and, yes, Brits and Americans that, since they were fighting a common enemy, the Jews, they weren’t really the mortal enemies of France and Poland and Belgium and Norway and England and the US. Untold millions were eager to believe that Germany wasn’t really threatening them and their countries, that the Germans didn’t really want to conquer, exploit and kill them. Why? Because they either thought that they could make a common cause with the Nazis against the Jews, or remained indifferent, neutral and defenseless because, being indifferent to the fate of the Jews, they believed it was none of their problem. Many of them even turned against those in their own countries who wanted to fight the Nazis and blamed them for putting everyone else in danger just to “protect the Jews”.
In short: if the Jews were used in the beginning as scapegoats, their main use throughout the war was as a tool to “divide and conquer”. Thanks to their sincere or opportunistic ant-Semitism the Germans were able to paralyse important forces in the countries and societies they wanted to defeat and submit.
That’s just what is happening once again before our very eyes. Though the Jihadists have their own clear, even megalomaniac goals, and while they kill thousands in the US or fight for Shari’a in Europe, while they complain about East Timor or fight for Kashmir, it is enough for them to involve the Jews, particularly Israel, in their struggle or their declared agenda to get the active support or at least the indifference of those in Europe, the US and elsewhere who would like to believe that their complaints, grievances and goals are restricted to or only motivated by Israel. Of course, they also declare they’re fighting against America, but then, for those who hate America anyway (and often the Jews and/or Israel too), the same logic works perfectly."

JEWS IN IRAN
Angus McDowall at the UK Independent writes about the situation of the Jews who are still in Iran:
"When Ciamak Morsathegh chose to take up a position as the medical boss of Sapir hospital, he did not regret the "big opportunities" he was giving up in an already high-flying career. "This hospital is part of our identity as Jews," he says. "It is the practical point of interaction between us and non-Jews in Iran. We help anybody. We don't ask them their religion."
The pictures on opposite walls in Dr Morsathegh's office tell their own story. The stern features of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, father figure of Iran's Islamic revolution, glower down from above the desk, as they do in almost every office in the country. Facing the desk is a painting of Moses, Aaron, and a tablet bearing the Ten Commandments."
CNN VS ISRAEL
Yaacov Lippin at ynet.com writes about the persistence of anti-Israel bias in CNN reporting:
"The report began with an account of Haifa by a CNN female correspondent. During the report, there is a single, brief image of Israeli civilians, sitting at a café in Haifa. The picture remains on the screen for a number of seconds, before the journalist is seen being interviewed by the CNN anchor.
"Well some Arab Israelis were very upset when rockets struck their homes and three people died, and all of them were Arab Israelis, and they were complaining that they have hadn't been built bunkers like Israeli Jews in this city," said the journalist, answering a question about relations between Jews and Arabs in Haifa. She later said the answer depended on "who you asked."
The report did not mention any Israeli casualties, and no interviews with Israeli civilians were conducted.
...Wiederman's report was then followed by an item on the struggle aid workers to get into southern Lebanon.
During earlier coverage on Sunday, CNN chose the word "resistance" to describe Hizbullah's actions in Lebanon – a term used by Hizbullah - as well as Hamas - to describe their own attacks - implicitly presuming that armed jihad organizations are 'resisting' and defending against aggression, rather than initiating it.
A succession of images followed, showing a Lebanese woman alone among ruins, followed immediately by a photograph of smiling Israeli soldiers with guns raised in the air. No context or explanations of when and where the photos were taken are provided."
CEASE FIRE AND AFTERMATH
David Warren at realclearpolitics.com writes about the adventures of Condaleeza Rice in forging the current halt in fighting between Israel and Hezbollah (he notes: "Israel is the only party over which she has much influence; and "world opinion" has been taught that only Israel is capable of crimes. At its most charitable, the world expects Miss Rice to find a "middle way", between Israel's existence and non-existence."):
"We turn now to Hezbollah, which operates the television station Al Manar, currently broadcasting from we know not where. For the last couple of weeks, it has been repeating clips of its missiles firing towards Israel, followed by "borrowed" Israeli TV shots of Israeli civilians being rushed to hospital, and the wreckage of their homes, with a catchy little couplet:
"Destroy! Explode it! Your weapon restores my country's honour. Resist! Explode! Shake! Destroy! Your weapon restores my country's honour."
You may find plenty more in this genre, both in the original and in translation, at Palestinian Media Watch. Or follow Internet links to the original sources, and read and watch in "real time". From the above examples, you will already detect differences in nuance between the party positions of Fatah, Hamas, and Hezbollah respectively.
But it is necessary to search, via Internet, for the Western media do not report on such things. The theory being, according to several journalists with whom I have discussed this, that the material is too "inflammatory", and might prejudice people against Palestinian or other Muslims. They do not seem to realize that it might be not only inflammatory, but outrageously misleading, to focus obsessively on Israel's unintended civilian victims, when the country is defending itself against terrorists who have fired several thousand missiles, quite intentionally, at Israeli civilian targets."
Meanwhile, in Syria, President Assad wants to 'liberate the Golan Heights' and 'Israel does not want peace:'
Syrian President Bashar Assad said his country is prepared for any war that may break out with Israel , adding that he is convinced that the chances for peace have decreased and that “the Golan Heights will be liberated by Syria.”
In a special interview with Egyptian newspaper Al-Osboa, Assad said “if Israel launches a war against Syria, it will pay a heavy price.”
He said Syria has been following Israel closely, particularly after former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon came to power.

Lebanese writer Michael Behe writes about the dupicity of the government in Lebanon and it's inability to deal with the facts of responsibility with The Most Hypercritical People on Earth:

[He has a large map image on the page with this article - Editor] I have situated, as best I could, BUT IN THEIR CORRECT PROPORTIONS, the parts of my capital that have been destroyed by Israel. They are Haret Hreik – in its totality – and the dwellings of Hezbollah’s leaders, situated in the large Shi’a suburb of Dayaa (as they spell it) and that I have circled in blue.
In addition to these two zones, Tsahal has exploded a nine-storied building that housed Hezbollah’s command, in Beirut’s city center, above and slightly to the left (to the north west) of Haret Hreik on the map. It was Nasrallah’s “perch” inside the city, whereby he asserted his presence and domination over us. LEBANON WAR
There is so much news going on about the crisis in Lebanon. Here are just a few general items:
Hezbollah is being accused of staging a number of the photographs that have been coming from news-gathering giants like Reuters and the Associated Press. Jerusalem Post has an article that covers several of the cases of faked photographs. The Michelle Malkin site has further items about this event(s) too. A description of how these news giants get their news (and why there might be a built-in anti-Israeli bias) is written about at the Green Footballs website.
The New York Times (at Yahoo) has something on fighting within the US Government on when (or if) to deliver certain weapons purchased by Israel. Daniel Pipe's from the New York Post has a brief article on State Department bias against Israel.

OLD-FASHIONED JEW-HATE

"One of the curious side-effects of the jihad is that it’s liberated among non-Muslims in the west an amazing resurgence in old-school Jew-hatred. I don’t just mean the coded stuff – “Oh, those Jews are so clever” – or the casual prejudices of the schoolyard – “He Jewed me out of two shillings for a Mars Bar” - but just plain naked virulent hatred. Right now I’m getting a ton of mail like this:
Israelis are the pigs of planet earth: butchering Arab babies, polluting the sea, the land, and the very air we breathe with the the stench of their inhumanity. Israel is a collection of the scum of earth and should be destroyed.
That’s from Nica Campbell, and her opening sentences are only the warm-up. For centuries, Jews were viewed as sinister wandering rootless cosmopolitan figures of no national allegiance. So they became a conventional sovereign state and now they’re hated for that. The standard defense is that it’s not anti-Semitic to criticize Israeli policies, but, as Miss Campbell’s letter suggests, what’s being questioned is not Israel’s policies but the right of Israel to have policies, especially on national security."
